My entry for the Yuumei-contest! c: This was very fun to do. I'm surprised that it came out so serious and 'deep' though x3. I usually choose a humorous approach to things, but in this case, where most of the other entries were humorous, I chose to do something serious for once c:

I wanted to do something different too. And since there were so many comics about the quirks of an artist, I wanted to do one that described the 'evolution of an artist'. I find it interesting how some people have always known that they wanted to be an artist (me for example x3) I wonder why this is. Why do some children become interested in art, while others don't?
I also find it intersting how you keep maturing as an artist as you get older. I don't know if you ever truly 'bloom' though, like in the comic. You keep evolving as long as you live. But i do believe there's a point in every artists life, where you figure out what you want to do, or get another kind of artistic revelation.

I hope you like this! Since it was so long, I had to spend less time on the art, and more time on actually getting it finished. I tried to let the style change bit as the main characters gets older though. It's more sketchy when she's young, and gets more mature as she gets older.

Even though the main characters is named Ida, it's not really me this comic is about. I'm still struggling with finding out were I want to go with my art. I hope that one day I will find out though c:

I'm sorry if there are any spelling mistakes in here. If you find any, please tell me! c: I'm also a bit unsure about the the word 'bloom', at the end of the comic. In norwegian, there's this word, 'blomstre', which means when a flower is fully matured, but can also be used to describe sometging else, like a person, who's finally... matured in something. In appearance for example. or art, music etc. I used google translate to find a similar word in english, but all it gave me was the word 'flourish', which I don't think is right. I searched for a better word, and found 'bloom'. what do yout think about this? Does it seem like the right word?

Just lovely. Absolutely wonderful!

You showed the mind of an artist in a nice simplistic approach that is not only easy to understand, but also very relatable. I think that all artist feel these kinds of emotions in sometime - the strive, the fun, the excitement; but also the doubt, feeling just average, and sometime a sense of meaninglessness. I think that the latter feelings come from growing up and one's real-world obligations. Even the character replying "I don't know. Maybe." when asked if she wants to be an artist is generally accurate - it somewhat gives the notion that the character is second guessing herself.

Use of the cute little soul creature is creative, and acts as a guide to the character. It's almost like an inner-consciousness or inner-child that never leaves, and believes in the artist. The soul creature says "draw here", and shows the artist what she can do. But even if the work is astounding, there can still be doubt.

I very much appreciate how the character does, as you stated, become more complex - regarding visual style - as she grows older.

This little comic strip is a nice visual way of portraying what many artists struggle with and go through. It is a simple way of telling, but the underlay can be complex.

Your picture is actually true to many artists. For us artists, we always think we can not stand out from such an enormous crowd. Being an artist is a dream many people try to achieve every year, and yet many are knocked down, either they believe they reached their limit, gave up, or think art is meaningless, making only a few standing. This is rather an outstanding work of art, and it is true, there are no limits to creativity or art. For us artists, we create art from the heart, even when we don't realize it. Once again, this is a marvelous work of art. I applaud for you.

Every time someone tells me I go into art/writing/music as a career, I shrug and say, "I'd like to, but I'm not at the level I need to be for that. There are too many people who are far better." I honestly believe that to be the case, but maybe I'm wrong and I could actually make it as an artist of some sort. This comic gives me hope.
But I only wish I had a spirit animal like that. :D

Thank you for this. I found this right after arguing with my sister about how I can't make it as an artist, and she made me start to doubt myself. This restored my faith in myself. Thank you.

This is the most brilliant things I've ever come across on Deviant Art, in my opinion. Thank you. I'm sending it to all my friends who, like me, think we have no real chance. thank you!
