My entry for the Yuumei-contest! c: This was very fun to do. I'm surprised that it came out so serious and 'deep' though x3. I usually choose a humorous approach to things, but in this case, where most of the other entries were humorous, I chose to do something serious for once c:

I wanted to do something different too. And since there were so many comics about the quirks of an artist, I wanted to do one that described the 'evolution of an artist'. I find it interesting how some people have always known that they wanted to be an artist (me for example x3) I wonder why this is. Why do some children become interested in art, while others don't?
I also find it intersting how you keep maturing as an artist as you get older. I don't know if you ever truly 'bloom' though, like in the comic. You keep evolving as long as you live. But i do believe there's a point in every artists life, where you figure out what you want to do, or get another kind of artistic revelation.

I hope you like this! Since it was so long, I had to spend less time on the art, and more time on actually getting it finished. I tried to let the style change bit as the main characters gets older though. It's more sketchy when she's young, and gets more mature as she gets older.

Even though the main characters is named Ida, it's not really me this comic is about. I'm still struggling with finding out were I want to go with my art. I hope that one day I will find out though c:

I'm sorry if there are any spelling mistakes in here. If you find any, please tell me! c: I'm also a bit unsure about the the word 'bloom', at the end of the comic. In norwegian, there's this word, 'blomstre', which means when a flower is fully matured, but can also be used to describe sometging else, like a person, who's finally... matured in something. In appearance for example. or art, music etc. I used google translate to find a similar word in english, but all it gave me was the word 'flourish', which I don't think is right. I searched for a better word, and found 'bloom'. what do yout think about this? Does it seem like the right word?

Like an artist by =JellyVampire is amazing. Beautiful, creative and well told, with excellent use of layout. The ending is just wonderful.

What a lovely display of what you can do with the computer medium. This is a great example of a type of storytelling that would simply not work as effectively outside the computer and the "scrolling down gradually" effect you get on a monitor. I guess the analogue would be a papyrus roll or similar.

As you might have guessed, I enjoyed reading this. Art-wise the style is simple yet effective. It fits the theme, conveys the story. It was an good touch to keep the art colourful while the characters grey and dull by contrast. I was a bit skeptical of the "antropomorphic personification of your artistic soul" at first (it sounded a bit cheesy), but the kid's immediate acceptance and interaction with the creature worked to endear me to it throughout - had it just been a sidekick it would have been silly, but as the main driver of the story it works surprisingly well. The subtle (and not-so-subtle) current of personal growth and maturity makes this most appealing.

For a critique, I find myself pretty uncritical at this point. Possibly I would have liked to see the use of stronger colours towards the end - the end after all signifies a new insight. In the middle of the story, such an insight was represented by very stark colours; the long stretch of brown towards the end tends to be somewhat visually similar and maybe reducing the visual impact of the last revelation. That said, that is only nitpicking and not diminishing the fact that we are looking at a very powerful representation.

Great job.

This is quite possibly the most greatest, most awesome, best non-animated Daily Deviation I have ever witnessed on deviantART. Ever. It speaks to me on so many levels. By losing your life to art at a very early age, you can change your world. For the better. Because you are right. There are no limits.

You are the spark. Light the fire. Blossom.

This is what art is all about. Art is inside you. Let it out. You let it out. We should all let it out. You are a great motivator. I would like to thank you so much for motivating me.

Congratulations. You have made the awesome list.

Very nice! Reminds me of stumbling blocks I have faced, and ones that I will face in the future. However, it is also very encouraging, making me want to face those blocks and get over them all the more!

An inanimate, drawn image has never made me cry before. To be honest, I feel kinda silly. XD But this is beautiful. It really is.

This is absolutely amazing and well deserving of that DD. I just love the personification of Ida's imagination which is like my dragon here. Showing the evolution and history of her work over the years.

This is stupendously beautiful, both in style and concept. Her persona ties everything together in an incredibly delightful way, one which makes this comic resonate very strongly with many artists everywhere.

I flipping love this. I take it this means it applies to writing, as well?? I love how the personification of her artist soul grows as she does, and can show her what she can't see. So lovely. Thank you for making this work of brilliance.

I love the idea of the antropormorphic personification of our artist soul! Can I use this idea for myself?
Also, your art is so amasing!

Gorgeous... simply poetic and amazing! My dad tries to make me follow his way (remakes of Leonardo Da Vinci's art), I want to cross barriers I dream of crossing. I improve my art every month, and he still treats me like I'm trying to suck butt and not succeed. I want to be the new James Waterson (comic artist of the series Calvin and Hobbes), I don't think I was meant to be an immortal form of Pablo Picasso. My mom tells me to not always follow his way, dad says  'Because daddies know everything' but I already outsmarted his catchphrase. She tells me to find my own ways to be an artist, painter or cartoonist, just do what you're capable of. Art doesn't always have to be sophisticated, my dad thinks it's serious to the absurd death, my mom thinks art is in everything, we both believe I got my artistic and cartoon skills from my Grandfather that died three years before I was born. He loved art as much as I do, and I think his spirit still encourages me to follow my dreams in an interpretive manner like he did in his world of creativity.

Awesome, simply awesome.  I have felt this way myself several times and you've captured that feeling perfectly in this.  Keep up the good work because you will go places people who have been demoralized like this will never go.  We as artists create worlds, almost like gods.  Don't let your creations die because their creator gave up.
